The FDE role reads a lot like a solutions architect who is allowed to actually ship code, which is probably why it works โ most of the gap between demo and production is unglamorous integration nobody owned. The bit I'd underline is that FDEs are also the fastest feedback channel a product team will ever have, assuming anyone back home is listening. Curious whether these teams stay small on purpose or eventually get reorganised into "professional services" and lose the plot.
